Official Groundbreaking Markham District Energy Plant Expansion

MARKHAM, ON ~ May 31, 2007 ~ Markham is creating some high energy with the expansion of its district energy plant at the Warden Energy Centre.

Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Ontario Minister of Energy Dwight Duncan and Ontario Minister of Revenue Michael Chan will speak at the official groundbreaking of the new Markham District Energy 5 MW (megawatt) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility.

Tuesday June 5, 2007 at 10:30 am
 8100 Warden Avenue, Markham
(north of Highway 407 - follow signs to the construction site)

The expanded CHP (or cogeneration) plant, to be ready in June 2008, will deliver 5 MW of electrical power to the local power grid, enough to power over 5000 homes. Heat is recovered from the electrical generation process and is delivered to the district heating system that serves Markham Centre and customers that include IBM, Motorola, Tridel and the Markham YMCA. The expansion brings the plant’s capacity to 8.5 MW.
