Markham Commemorates 60th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Accession to the Throne with Ceremony at Civic Centre
On Monday, February 6, the Markham Diamond Jubilee Committee hosted an event at Markham Civic Centre, Council Chamber,101 Town Centre Blvd.,Markham, to commence a year-long celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne and her loyal service toCanadaatMarkham’s Civic Centre. Entertainment and speakers provided tribute to Her Majesty followed by cake and the inaugural tasting of the Diamond Jubilee Tea, commissioned for the occasion. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Frank Scarpitti and the Deputy Mayor Jack Heath
The Markham Diamond Jubilee Committee: was formed to help Markham community groups mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with various events throughout the Town of Markham in 2012. Markham has a history of leadership when it comes to celebrating Her Majesty’s milestones. Throughout 2002, Markham held a number of events to commemorate the Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee, highlighted by the Queen and Prince Philip’s visit to the Markham booth at a reception held for the Queen in Toronto.
